Mera peak climbing

Mera peak climbing

Mera peak climbing Guide, Mera peak climbing cost, Mera peak climbing itinerary, Mera peak climbing agency, Mera peak climbing season

Mera Peak, at the awesome height of 6476m, is Nepal's highest trekking peak and boasts an absolutely stunning summit panorama that includes five of the world's 8000m peaks: Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest and Cho Oyu.
It is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal. The Peak itself rises to the south of Everest in the Hinku (Hongu) Valley (seen at left). The ascent of the peak is technically straightforward, however, the heavy snow and the maze of crevasses can make the way to the summit a puzzle. Besides the thrill of climbing Mera Peak, the trek to base camp from Lukla is rewarding in itself for experiencing this little-visited and as yet unspoiled region of Nepal with densely forested hillsides. There are several approaches to the base camp besides the easy and normal route which is mentioned below. The routes crossing Amphu Labtsa (5,780m) and the Mingbo La (5,871m) provide some the most adventurous trekking with spectacular scenery through remote glaciated valleys and passes.

North Face Glacier Route from the Mera La.
The Base Camp can be set up at 5,300m near Mera La on the Hongu side in the moraine below the ice. From here a High Camp (HC) is set at 5,800m near a rocky outcrop on the Mera Glacier. The high camp boasts one of the most stunning vantage points in all of Nepal, offering a panoramic view of Kanchanjunga, Chamlang, Makalu and Baruntse sweeping around from the east and Amadablam, Cho Oyu and Kangtega to the west. The giant faces of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse appear in the north. There are three main summits which are climbable without much difficulty. The south summit (6,065m) is the most accessible. The Northern Summit (6,476m) is the highest, which can be reached by skirting the Central Summit (6,461m) to the north and following the snow ridge to its top. Climbing the middle summit requires an ascent on steep snow and is more technical. Mera North is the most straight-forward climb.

Return trek through the upper Hongu valley and then over the high pass of Amphu Laptsa to come out at Chukung in the upper Imja river valley near Island Peak. Muktinath / Jomsom Trek
Jomsom Muktinath Trek 11 Days Difficulty: Easy Plus Max Alt: 3800 m

This Trans-Himalayan Trek with excellent lodges lining the main routes, is essentially the final third of the Annapurna Circuit. It reaches the Mustang border, by Kag Beni. Nepal 's spectacular diversity appears at its finest. The deep valleys and high mountains encircling the giant Annapurna Himal embrace a wide range of peoples and terrain, from subtropical jungle to a high, dry landscape resembling the Tibetan Plateau. This route is an exceptional way to discover all aspects of the Himalayas, and is the only low altitude passage between the northern and southern Himalayas . Rich green forests give way to dry desert highlands. The mountain viewing is brilliant and various ethnic groups will be encountered along the way.
This trek follows the Kali Gandaki valley between the soaring peaks of Annapurna and Dhoulagiri and finally emerges to the north of the main Himalayan range, on the Tibetan plateau. The final destination is the holy temple of Muktinath , a farther day's walk beyond Jomsom. The return to Pokhara can either be made by retracing your steps down the Kali Gandaki valley or by flying from Jomsom to Pokhara.

Island peak climbing and Everest three passes trekking

island peak climbing management by the mountain air guided Adventures(p)Ltd.This is the most popular trekking peak in Nepal. From Dingboche the mountain is seen as an island in a sea of ice. The mountain itself is the extension of the South Ridge of Lhotse Shar seperated by a small col. The ridge rising to the south from this point leads to the summit of Island Peak (6,189m/20,305'). The extension of this ridge descending south-west is the part of the normal route of ascent and leads to the South Summit. Imja Tse not only  proves to be an enjoyable climb but also provides a vantage point for some of the most spectacular scenery of the Khumbu Himalayas.Imja Tse is the ideal first Himalayan climb and a wonderful experience to climb over 20,000 ft. Basic mountaineering experience such as glacier travel, ice-axe arrest, use of ascenders, and rapelling are REQUIRED for participation. Mountaineering skills will be reviewed by our climbing Sherpas on the trek in prior to your climb.
Seen from the summit, the mountain giants Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse (8,501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383m) make a semi circle to the north. The views of Makalu (8475m) to the east, Baruntse and Ama Dablam to the south add all the more incentive for climbing Island Peak.

The trekking route can include crossing the Chola pass into the Gokyo valley either at the beginning or on the return leg.
Climb from the South East Flank & South-West Ridge
Normally, the base camp is set to the south at Pareshaya Gyab (5,087m), between Imja Tse and
the lateral moraine of the Imja Glacier. It is wise to remember that the place is prone to avalanche in the event of heavy snowfall. From Base Camp, starting at 2:00 or 3:00 AM, a well acclimatized party in good condition can make the summit and return in a day. However, most of the climbers prefer establisheing a High-Camp (5600 m) which aids a safe ascent. From Base Camp the route skirts south east around the base of Imja Tse and climbs steep grassy slopes and small rocky steps. We scramble up an open gully which leads between two ridges to the site of high camp on the left-hand ridge below and to the right of a small hanging glacier. Just above high camp, some rocky steps require 200 m of moderate scrambling and then up through a broad open gully. At the top of the gully, glacier travel begins and proceeds up to a steep (50-55°) snow and ice slope. From here, fixed ropes may be setup by the guides for the strenuous ascent of nearly 100 metres (330 ft)  to the summit ridge. The final push to the summit is somewhat difficult due to steep climbing. In recent times the snowy slopes below the summit have developed some large crevasses making the final ascent to the top more difficult

Climb from the North Ridge
First ascent was in 1958 by Alf Gregory, Dick Cook and two Sherpas. North of the main summit the ridge continues to a col (5,700m). The route climbs the ridge from the col, which is reached by following the true right bank of the Imja Glacier and later the moraines on the right bank of the Lhotse Sar Glacier, before climbing north-west over snowy slopes to the col. On the first ascent, a camp was placed on the col. From the col, follow the ridge which is a magnificient snow arete, due south. This steepens for the final summit pyramid. This a long ridge that would be difficult under soft snow conditions and may under other contiditions have a marked cornice. The climb is a little more difficult than the normal route, and is graded alpine PD+.

Island peak is one of the most popular trekking peak in Nepal. Perhaps the name of peak is so because from Dingboche the peak is seen as an island in a sea of ice. The summit is interesting and attractive with a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier. The ridge rising to the south from this point leads to the summit of Island Peak. The extension of this ridge descending southwest is the part of the normal route of ascent and leads to the south Summit.

Photo: Nepal Island Peak ( 6189 m.) Climbing

Imja Tse, another name of the same Island Peak does not only provide an enjoyable climb but also provides some of the most spectacular scenery of Himalayas in the Khumbu region. View from the summit are Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse (8,501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383m) make a semi circle in the north. The views of Makalu (8475m) in the east, Baruntse and Amadablam in the south add much more charming bonus in climbing Island Peak (Imjatse).

The normal route:
The base camp of Island Peak lies in Chukung Valley, between Island Peak and the lateral moraine of the Imja Glacier. Proper care should be taken to avoid the possible avalanche in the event of heavy snowfall.

From the base camp, a well-acclimatized party in good conditions can make the summit and return to the base camp in a day. However, most of the climbers prefer alpine style camping at high camp, which adds the joy of climbing and helps a safe ascent. From the base camp the route skirts southeast around and base of Imja Tse and climbs steep grassy slopes and small rocky steps. We scramble up on open gully which leads between two ridges to the site of high camp on at 5, 280m.

From the high camp, the lefts hand ridge scramble across the broad open gully. After crossing a gully a steep snow and ice ramp leads upward for nearly 100 meters to the summit ridge. Climbing near the summit is a little difficult due to steep climbing.

Himalayan sherpa atmosphere and smell can feel after the lukla.

The Gokyo Valley is perhaps the most spectacular of the valleys in the Everest region and while the trail to Everest Base Camp gets close to the world's highest mountain there are those who suggest the view from Gokyo Peak offers the best panoramic view in the region. The trail to Gokyo has a network of small lodges which have recently seen big improvements in food and accommodation facilities.

This now makes the programme ideally suited to lodge-based trekking. The highlights are many, the sensational Ngozumpa Glacier, one of the largest in the Nepal Himalaya, the lakes at Gokyo, and the side trek to the top of Gokyo Kang (5360m) where the views are the amongst the most spectacular in Nepal including four 8,000-metre peaks: Cho-Oyo (8153m), Makalu (8475m), Lhotse (8511m) and, of course, Mount Everest (8848m).

After a magnificent mountain flight to Lukla we start the trek by following the Dudh Kosi river valley to Namche Bazaar. We trek at a steady pace allowing ample time for acclimatization and plenty of opportunity to enjoy the renowned Sherpa hospitality. The trail to Gokyo is a gradual ascent up the valley passing through patches of birch and rhododendron forest where the elusive musk deer can sometimes be seen. The mountain views are impressive as we head through small yak grazing settlements to the Gokyo Lakes.

Here we stop for two nights for exploration, which will include the straightforward climb to Gokyo peak. Our return route crosses to the opposite side of the valley and passes through the village of Phortse and on to Thyangboche monastery, a most magnificent location where we rest and savour the incredible scenery, including magnificent views of Everest, Ama Dablam (6856m), Kantega (6809m), Kwangde (6194m), Nuptse (7879m), and Lhotse (8511m) to name but a few.
