We have 3 days stay at Lhasa in the center of old cities. There you've lots of time for acclimatization & you can enjoy main attractions of the city like the Potala Palace, the Jhokhang Temple etc. Then we leave Lhasa in our Toyota Land cruiser 4 wheel drive, passing amazing country. After drive from Lhasa, our accommodation will be at the best traditional hotels. We will get the opportunity to explore further monasteries & find ourselves immersed in the Buddhist rich culture, in the towns of Gyantse and Shigatse.

With convenient & luxury tour, the main highlight of this trip is the visit to Everest Base Camp, the trek to camp III in 6340 meters, where the sheer grandeur of Everest's north face you have to see to believe. Itinerary:
Day 01 Flight Kathmandu (1350m) - Lhasa (3660m) Early in the morning, we transfer to Tribhuwan International airport for 2 hours long flight to Gongar Airport, Lhasa, on a China Southwest Airlines Boeing 757, takes us right across the main Himalayan range and provides us magnificent mountains views. Upon our arrival at Gongar airport, there our agent will meet you, & then we start drive. After 2 hours long drive by Land cruiser, we arrive in Lhasa.

Day 02 Sightseeing in Lhasa Today we'll visit various Buddhist monasteries including Sera Monastery, one of the best preserved monasteries in Tibet, where several hundred monks live and study within it's whitewashed walls & golden roofs. After lunch, we'll visit the Norbulingka, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, as well as the Jhokhang Temple, possibly the most sacred shrine in Tibet and there is always a procession of devout Tibetans through the complex. Surrounding the Jhokhang is the Barkor - a maze of narrow cobbled streets, the central market of Lhasa.

Day 03 Sightseeing in Lhasa This morning, we will visit the Potala Palace which dominates the city of Lhasa, spectacular building, it contains the private quarters of the Dalai Lama as well as numerous grand state rooms and many important chapels. There has been a palace on this site since the 5th or 6th century, but the present palace was constructed in the 17th century. After lunch, we'll visit the Drepung Monastery, which was founded in the 14th century, & was once the largest in the world, with a population of around 10,000 monks. These days that figure is down to several hundred, but there is still much here of interest as it was left relatively unscathed during the Cultural Revolution.

Day 04 Drive Lhasa - Gyantse (3950m.) - 261 k.m. Today we begin our overland journey towards Rongbuk valley. We follow the Friendship Highway by jeep, we cross the Khamba La (4794m) from which there are stunning views across the waters of Yamdrok-tso Lake to the snowy summit of Nazin Kang Sa (7252m). As we continue our journey to westwards over another high pass the Karo La (5045m), we can view the spectacular sight of a huge glacier tumbling down to within a few hundred meters of the road. After few hours, we arrive to Gyantse passing the beautiful valleys and colorful Tibetan villages.

Day 05 Drive Gyantse (3950m.) - Shigatse (3900m.) - 90 k.m. Before leaving Gyantse, we can visit the Gyantse Dzong and Gyantse Kumbum, which is a large gold-domed stupa, & its many small chapels house an impressive arry of Tibetan Buddhist murals. The Dzong is a fort dating from the 14th century from which there are amazing views of both Gyantse itself and the surrounding Nyang Chu Valley. Thereby, we continue the journey to Shigatse, the second largest city in Tibet. After a short drive of only 90kms, we take our lunch. Thereafter, exploring the local market we will make a detailed visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet.

Day 06 Drive Shigatse (3900m.) - Shegar (New Tingri) (4050m.) - 244 k.m. Today we restart the journey following the Friendship Highway, through spectacular landscape of Tibet, crossing the highest pass on our journey, the Gyamtso La (5220m). Then we continue towards the plains passing lonely monasteries and the camps of nomadic herders, en route to Shegar.

Day 07 Drive Shegar (4050m.) - Rongbuk - 68 k.m. As we leave Shigatse, we turn off the Friendship Highway and head south over the Pang La (5150m) towards the main Himalayan range that give magnificent view stretching from Makalu to Shishapangma. Below the pass, as we turn the corner into the Rongbuk Valley, we can watch the charming view of Everest than ever.

Day 08 In the morning hiking to Everest Base Camp and back to Rongbuk (5000m.) – and drive back to Tingri (4390m.) - 65 KM.

Drive Tingri (4390m.) - Zhangmu (2300m.) - 181 k.m. Today we leave Tingri, crossing two high passes, the Lalung La (5124m) and the Shung La (5200m). On the way, we're rewarded by the magnificent scenery of the surrounding peaks including Shishapangma, Cho Oyu, Menlungtse and Gauri Shankar. Then we rejoin the journey towards the arid Tibetan Plateau to Zhangmu on the Nepalese border. As we leave Tibet, it appears an incredibly lush and green town.

Day 10 Drive Zhangmu (2300m.) - Kodari - Kathmandu (1350m.) - 123 k.m. Leaving Zhangmu, we join the Friendship Bridge passing the Bhote Koshi River and mark the Chinese - Nepalese border. After that short drive, we say good-bye to our Tibetan guide. Then we drive and walk to Nepalese Immigration Control in Kodari, there we have our Nepalese staff, completing the reentry formalities we'll drive towards the Kathmandu, which may take 5 hours, but it depends on road & weather condition.

Itinerary of the Kathmandu to Tibet overland tour 7 Night 8 days

Day 01 Drive Kathmandu to Zhangmu (altitude - 2300m/ 7,544ft): Pick up from your hotel at 6 o'clock. It is about 5 hours scenic drive to Kodari (China / Nepal border) then onto Zhangmu. On the drive, you will see a variety of landscapes and mountains views as you pass through Nepal to Tibet. As well as the scenery, the Nepali and Tibetan market center of Khasa is of interest. Overnight stay at guesthouse or hotel.

Day 02 Zhangmu to Xegar (altitude - 4050m/ 13,284ft): Drive from Zhangmu to Nylam through the Nylam passes at 3800 meters (12,464ft) and continue via Lalung la pass (5050m/ 16,564ft) to Xegar. Highlights of this drive are the views of the Bhotekosi River deep in the valley, waterfalls and the ever-present spectacular mountain scenery. Here you will see the Jugal mountain range, Mt. Xixapangma (at 8013m/ 26,282ft, the highest peak in Tibet), Mt. Makalu (8463m/ 27,766ft), Mt. Everest (8848m/ 29,028ft), Mt. Lhotse (8516m/ 27,940ft) and Mt. Cho-Oyu (8201m/ 26,899ft). Stay overnight in guesthouse or hotel.

Day 03 Xegar to Xigatse (altitude - 3900m/ 12,792ft): This area is famous for the Tashilhunpo and Sakya monasteries. 

Tashilhunpo monastery: The Tashilhunpo Monastery does justice to the term monastic city. It was founded in 1447 by Tsong Khapa's nephew and disciple, Gendundrub, who was the first Dalai Lama. Under the fourth Panchen Lama, it was substantially enlarged and became an important cultural and religious site. The main chapel contains a huge, 26 meter-high statute of the future Buddha. The monastery is grandly decorated with arts, ancient scriptures and scroll paintings. 

Sakya monastery: The Sakya monastery originally consisted of two large complexes on either side of the Trum River. Both the north monastery, founded in the 11th century and Sakya south, founded in 1268 by Phagpa, have uniquely significant status with Tibetan pilgrims. The monastery offers you libraries of spiritual books as well as artwork and a chance to see the grand residence of the monks.

Day 04 Xigatse to Gyantse (altitude - 3950m/ 12,956ft): Gyantse, lying 264 km southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of the Nyang Chu River, is of historical significance. In the 15th century it served as the capital of a small kingdom. Today, Gyantse retains a deeply Tibetan character. The principle structures consist of a castle on a ridge overlooking the town and a walled monastic complex. The monastery includes the massive temple of Palkhor Chode and the great multi-chapel Kumbum Chorten. These religious monuments, part of Gyantse's ancient monastic town, contain some of the most extraordinary works of art in Tibet. Overnight in a guesthouse or hotel.

Day 05 Gyantse to Lhasa (altitude - 3650m/ 11,972ft): Drive from Gyantse through Karo-la pass at 5010 meters (16,432ft) and onto the Khambala pass at 4794 meters (15,729ft). The former climbs two lofty mountains, the Nozing khang sa (7223m/ 23,691ft) and the Ralung (6236m/ 20,454ft). On this day, you will also see the wonderful Yamdrok Tso Lake (turquoise lake) and the Brahmaputra River as well as the ever-present views of the interesting and unusual landscape. Spend the night in a guesthouse or hotel in Lhasa.

          Days 06/07 Lhasa Tour: These days you will be engrossed with sightseeing and excursions of the Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, the near-by Barkhor market, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and other fascinating places in Lhasa.

Day 01 Arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu (1350m) and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel, inclusive of dinner.

Day 02 City tour including Pashupatinath temple (Puja Ceremony in the morning), Boudhanath, Swayambhunath & Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight at hotel, inclusive of lunch, dinner and breakfast.

 Day 03 Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Nepal/China Friendship Bridge and drive to Nyalam (3750m). Total distance: 125 km from Kathmandu to Nyalam. Approximate driving: 5 hrs. Overnight at Guesthouse, inclusive of lunch and dinner with tea, coffee which is prepared by our expert cook and helpers. 

Day 04 Acclimatization day at Nyalam. Overnight at same Guesthouse, inclusive of lunch and dinner with tea, coffee which is prepared by our expert cook and helpers.

Day 05 Drive to Saga (4450m) via Lalung La Pass (5050m). Total distance: 250 km. Approximate driving: 8 hrs.
Overnight Guesthouse or tented camp, inclusive of full board meal.

Day 06 Drive to Paryang (4610m). Total distance: 250 km. Approximate driving: 7 hrs. Overnight Guesthouse or tented camp, inclusive of full board meal.

Day 07 Drive to Manasarovar (4560m). Total distance: 280 km. Approximate driving: 8 hrs. Overnight at tented camp or Guesthouse near Chiu Gompa. inclusive of full board meal.

Day 08 In the morning take a holy bath in Manasarovar; Puja ceremony, Manosarovar Lake Parikrama by jeep and proceed to Darchen (4570m). Overnight at Guesthouse or tented camp, inclusive of full board meal.3 days Mt. Kailash Kora 

Day 09 Trek to Derapuk (5000m). Overnight at tented camp, inclusive of full board meal.

 Day 10 Trek over Dolma La Pass (5600m.) and trek down to Zudulpuk (4800m). Overnight at tented camp, inclusive of full board meal. 

Day 11 Trek to near Darchen, and drive to Manasarovar. Overnight at tented camp, inclusive of full board meal. 

Day 12 Drive to Paryang. Overnight at Guesthouse or tented camp, inclusive of full board meal. 

Day 13 Drive to Saga. Overnight at Guesthouse or tented camp, inclusive of full board meal.

 Day 14 Drive to Nyalam. Overnight at Guesthouse, inclusive of full board meal.

Day 15 Drive to Friendship Bridge and Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel, inclusive of lunch and dinner. 

Day 16 After having breakfast transfer to Airport for your onward journey
